Her entire life she aspired to be all that she was designed to be and she never wavered from that inner commitment, even when outer circumstances required her to go “underground” for survival. At the same time, her story invites us to be so truthful with our own struggles, our own boundaries, our own suffering, and our own sense of care for ourselves and others. Everyone can gain something life-changing from this powerful memoir. I have. ”

Chapter 24 – Heeding The Call
An Excerpt
“Seeking refuge, renewal, and some much needed privacy, in early December of 2021, I headed to Joshua Tree, an hour or so outside of Palm Springs. I was drawn to its beauty and its potent energy. For centuries, indigenous people viewed the land as highly sacred, a place to connect to strength and resilience. I arrived at my Airbnb with the intention to continue writing and renew my spirit, which I felt was dragging from the collective Covid fear. Each time I wrote, I would begin first in prayer and meditation. “Sweet loving spirit, angels of love and light, my guides, ancestors of the highest vibration and intention, I ask you to be with me. Guide my voice so that my writing is an agent of the highest good. Help me to remember. Help me be an agent of healing and transformation for myself and my readers.”
“After speaking aloud my prayer, I became still. Anchoring my focus in the heart, directing the inhales and exhales there, coming into an easeful rhythm of breath. Once I felt present in my heart through the breath, I recalled the morning I awakened. I activated all my senses as I remembered, but most importantly, I remembered how I felt. The infinite calm. The infinite knowing. The limitless love and compassion. The wisdom. The hope. I soaked in that feeling as deeply as I could and, if my mind began to chat, as is its nature, I refocused in the heart and reconnected to the energy of my awakening. I became highly receptive to my inner guidance. I listened. I sat.
“You must urgently move back home.”

Interview Questions
What is the core message of Tragic Magic, and why do you believe it resonates with so many people?
Tragic Magic is about the transformative power of Divine love and how connecting with that energy can heal us of our trauma and change our perceptions of ourselves, others, and life as a whole. I share my journey of overcoming deep childhood wounds through spiritual practices and divine guidance. People resonate with it because trauma is universal, and the book offers hope that there is a path to healing even in our darkest moments It’s about the light that emerges when we face our pain with love and discipline, and I think that message is deeply needed in today’s world.
You mention that you had to reconnect with the teachings from your early schooling to heal. Can you explain how those early lessons made a difference in your journey?
As a child, I was taught meditation, Tai Chi, and the idea that Divine love is the most powerful force in the universe. But as a girl, I felt overwhelmed by these teachings and my sensitivity. I was highly psychic and struggled to feel safe in a home that was emotionally chaotic and violent. I buried my gifts and the teachings of my youth to seek social acceptance which led me to pursue a more conventional life. When my spiritual awakening happened, those early lessons and my buried innate gifts came flooding back. They provided the structure and foundation for me to heal from trauma and reconnect with the Divine. It was as though I had to rediscover the truth I’d always known but had buried. That’s why my work today is deeply rooted in those teachings.
You’ve spoken about a dramatic spiritual awakening in your twenties. How did that experience shape your life and your work today?
My awakening was like a rebirth. I had spent years suppressing my psychic abilities and spiritual connection, trying to live a conventional life. But the awakening forced me to face my true nature and the trauma I had buried. It was a turning point where I began to integrate the spiritual teachings from my childhood, which had once felt overwhelming, into the foundation of my healing. Today, I guide others in awakening to their own divine potential, using the very practices that saved my life.
As someone who has healed from significant childhood trauma, what advice would you give to others who are struggling with their own trauma?
First, recognize that healing is possible. It starts with accepting where you are without judgment and committing to the process of self-compassion. Spiritual practices—like meditation, breathwork, and connecting to Divine love—are powerful tools in this process. Healing from trauma isn’t linear, and it requires patience and discipline, but it’s about learning to trust that the love we seek is already within us. My advice is to begin by cultivating stillness, as it allows the pain to surface which is where you begin.
“Tragic Magic is the timeless story of a woman finding her power through her relationship with the divine and yet it is so much more. Regan shares with readers the very real struggle of growing up in the shadows of family secrets and dysfunction as well as brilliance and devotion. Through her mother’s gift of deep love, her father’s gift of wit, and her own gift of spiritual intuition, Regan has gifted us a story of compassion and forgiveness that the world can use as a template for our own healing.”
Nicole Sallak Anderson,
Novelist Author of: Wildfire: Losing Everything, Gaining the World
Many people today feel disconnected and overwhelmed. What are some simple practices you recommend for someone beginning to explore their inner life?
Start with stillness. In a world that constantly pulls us outward, finding time to sit quietly with yourself is transformative. Breathwork and meditation are accessible tools that help calm the mind and reconnect us with the Divine within. A simple gratitude practice too where every day you write what you are grateful for while pausing with each and FEEL the gratitude that resides in your heart. I also recommend mindful walking or creating a sacred space in your home—these practices help you anchor yourself and become present. The journey inward doesn’t need to be complicated; it’s about starting small, with intention and consistency.
You had a successful corporate career in Silicon Valley before embracing your spiritual path. How did that experience inform your work today as a spiritual teacher and coach?
My corporate experience taught me the importance of balance. In the high-stress world of Silicon Valley, I saw firsthand the consequences of disconnection—from ourselves and the Divine. My time there gave me a unique perspective on the pressures people face, and it strengthened my commitment to helping others find harmony in their lives. It also deepened my understanding that true success isn’t just external achievement but a deep inner peace and alignment with one’s purpose. Today, I use that insight to guide others in finding both spiritual and practical fulfillment in their lives.
Freedom Is A Choice Away
“As long as external circumstances determine your inner state, you will remain feeling powerless. Learn how to be sovereign. It begins and ends with love.”
Regan Caruthers
Tragic Magic
A Memoir
Regan seemed to have it all: a successful career, a supportive husband, and the stability of a conventional life. But beneath the surface, she was disconnected, haunted by chaotic memories of her mentally ill mother, absent father, and violent stepfather.
Educated at an unconventional school celebrating meditation, Tai Chi, and divine love, Regan was deeply connected to her inner magic. However, the turbulence of her childhood led her to bury her gifts and seek safety in societal norms.
A dramatic spiritual awakening at age 27 reconnected Regan with the intuitive wisdom of her youth. However, the challenges of adulthood—financial strain, an extramarital affair, and the demands of single motherhood—distracted her from her path.
Tragic Magic is Regan’s raw and inspiring account of unraveling a life built for survival, confronting her deepest wounds, and returning to the teachings of her youth. This story of heal- ing and transformation reveals how, even in our darkest times, we can rediscover the magic within.
