Practicing Gratitude

Woman writing in journal

Gratitude practice is one of the most effective and accessible ways to shift your perspective and enhance your well-being. To start, upon waking, sit up in bed and take a few deep breaths. Focus on three things in your life that you feel sincere gratitude for. Fully visualize each one, engaging all your senses to truly feel the gratitude. If you enjoy journaling, write down what you’re grateful for each morning. Imagine looking back on this list a year from now, rereading all the aspects of your life that you deeply appreciate.

Similarly, end each day: as you lay in bed with your eyes closed, review your day and reflect on three moments that you genuinely appreciate. This practice brings a restorative feeling into your sleep, promoting a peaceful and positive end to your day.

Practicing gratitude helps to attune your awareness to noticing the positives about life that are always present.  For me, life feels sweeter, and more meaningful when I take time to notice and feel conscious gratitude. And as a bonus feeling gratitude improves your health! A stronger immune system, improved sleep, and less anxiety are all proven benefits of this practice. I hope you start tonight.
